Ballerina Trends

[balmain runway]

[hair trends]

Tutus and buns need not only be worn by ballerinas. The ballerina trend is predicted to be big for Spring 2011. From skirts made out of lace and tulle, ballerina flats becoming all the rage and a chic new way to wear your hair I couldn't be more excited for spring to arrive. I am becoming a fan of wearing my hair tied back in a high neat bun, it saves me some time in the morning and if Vogue says it is a trend then who am I to argue with the fashion gods. Learning the new trends from watching runway shows and getting inspiration from balmain's amazing presentation, I couldn't help myself when I saw a tulle ballerina skirt in black at target of all places. I am not one to spend a lot of money on trend pieces, but this skirt cost $4.24 and I couldn't say no, even if it is only worn once. I am excited to pair this inexpensive skirt with amazing jackets and blazers, bedazzle myself in jewelry and make this trend my own.

Snow Day

[checklist]

[collage supplies]

I never though I would be thankful to see a foot of snow on the ground when I woke up. Needless to say, I was staying in my pajamas all day, sipping on hot chocolate and doing anything and everything I could possibly fit into this glorious day.  I have wanted to cover an old shoebox with magazine cut outs and make a collage of fashionable inspiration to create a storage box that I wouldn't mind looking at on top of my desk. Starting this organizational frenzy, I decided it was time to sort through my jewelry and separate my beads into a beading box A.C. Moore so kindly provided. My room, closet, and desk are immaculate making creativity a lot easier when I get in my productive moods. I threw making a skirt onto the list, because I have been staring at this black velvet material for about 6 months knowing exactly what I want to make with it, but not actually following through with it. I knew this task was probably not going to get done, especially with three episodes of soaps I needed to catch up on. Ebay didn't happen either, which I need to get around to because the two bags full of clothes and accessories staring at me from my closet have the potential to make me some extra money. All in all I am pretty happy with everything I got done today. I am relaxed, happy and accomplished. Thank you snow, may I see you again soon.

Knit Headband

Supplies
  • circular needle size 10
  • straight needle size 10
  • bulky yarn
  • sewing needle and thread

Directions:

piece 1
  • cast on 70 stitches on circle needle
  • knit for 2 inches

piece 2
  • cast on 6 stitches on straight needle
  • knit for inches

piece 3
  • cast on 20 stitches on straight needle
  • knit for 3 inches

Once all three pieces are complete, scrunch piece 3 so that piece 2 touches the ends on piece 3. With a needle and thread hand sew the two pieces together along the edges in order for it to stay. Next sew the bow onto the piece 1, creating a knit headband with a bow.

I made this pattern up on my own and experimented with the sizes in order for it to look the way I wanted. The entire thing took me about 2 hours to complete!

I hate my outfit. End of story.

[the devil]
I went to bed last night stress free and full of excitement. I rarely pick my ensembles out prior to the morning rush of shower, coffee, makeup and hair. I usually tend to make my way to the closet after all these tasks are done. Last night however, I thought I would start a new trend to eliminate the haphazard mornings which almost always leave me flying out of the house with wet hair speeding like a lunatic to make it to work on time. I woke up this morning with the intention to shower and curl my hair, fix my pearl necklace which was the main focus of my outfit, get starbucks and mosey into work five minutes early. I took the 30 minute grace period I gave myself and ventured into by beading supplies to fix my favorite necklace. Just as I was about to tighten the crimping bead around the string and finish off my first task, the necklace fell apart yet again.  Keep in mind it took longer than 30 minutes to do this due to lack of correct string and needles to make the process faster. Therefore, I was extremely late, in a fight with my favorite necklace, no time to shower which forced me into throwing my hair up with a headband and I was left with no other clothing options because I had only packed the one when I spent the night at my boyfriend's. Not caring that I had to be in the car twenty minutes ago I still stood in line at starbucks, hoping to alleviate my borderline angry mood. I got to work hating my outfit because I ruined what could have been an amazing one but due to lack of accessories it would have been put on the worst dressed list. Luckily I am sitting here thankful I am home alone in my bathrobe and ready to fix this necklace once and for all.

Birthday

Twenty Three. Yikes, where has the time gone? I started my birthday celebration pampering myself at the hair salon, then had my nails painted with OPI Romeo and Joliet. I am in love with this nail color. It is a mix between pink and purple, not too bright, but not too dark which puts me in an amazing mood.
Luckily I have a three day weekend, so Boston sounded like a perfect place to celebrate my birthday. My boyfriend and I met my friend Christine and her boyfriend out to dinner at this cute restaurant called the Regal Beagle in Brookline. The atmosphere was so cute, booths had nice throw pillows, the lighting was dim and the wall paper was something straight out of a Marie Antoinette movie.

The main reason to spend the night in Boston was due to Cirque du Soleil. We had tickets for months and the anticipation and excitment was getting overwhelming. I couldn't wait any longer to see the acrobats and costumes. The show was everything I hoped for and more. I would love to meet/be the costume designer who is responsible for those show stopping costumes. I was mesmerized and it gives me all the more reason to continue forward and make my portfolio something out of my dreams.

Family

A fashion trend is a type of fashion design that is popular in that time but eventually will go out of fashion and another idea will become the new popular trend. Family will always be in style no matter the day, time, or season. I have a very big, close family that I know will always be supportive no matter what. This is my favorite picture of my sister, cousins and myself. A time where we spent less on what we were wearing, but more of what our barbies and dolls where wearing. We have been very close since we were little and always manage to find time for each other.

Promotion=New Wardrobe

I am so excited for my new promotion. A little nervous, and a little unsure of whats to come, but it is so worth it. I am the new assistant manager of lingerie!!  I am moving to a different store, where there are a few familiar faces, but a ton of new ones. The excitement began on Monday when I received the call from the lingerie manager asking me to join her team. I accepted immediately with a huge smile on my face. Two days later it still has not set in, but I have been thinking of all the ways to wear my current wardrobe and all the things I would like to add to it.  I love that this will be a brand new start for 2011. A new job, a new work environment and new people. What more could I ask for? After sifting through my closet, seeing what I have for dresses, skirts and pants I knew I was in trouble. With a closet full of denim and cute tops, I never had a problem because I worked in t.b.d. and wore jeans all the time. Lingerie, not so much and I refuse to wear black dress pants and look like an adult. I am faced with the challenge of keeping my personal style, following the trends, and looking professional for work....without jeans. I am thinking it is time to invest in the Citzens for Humanity Avedons. They are black, fabulous, look like denim...but they aren't!

I can think of a billion ways to incorporate these with boots, blazers and fun tops that I already have in my closet. I finally have my own desk, I saw it during my interview. Very cute, but very cold which means I am going to have to layer to keep myself warm. Unless they allow me to bring a space heater, which I highly doubt they will. I went to h&m and got two chunky cable knit sweaters and a new black jacket I have been wanting for awhile. I added a new belt with a huge bow on it, and a couple necklaces. I have all the basics I need to get by with and a ton of accessories to make each outfit look new and exciting each time I mix and match my clothes. I start the 17th, and it cannot come soon enough!!

New Year, Fresh Start

Happy New Year everyone!! I am so excited for what 2011 has in store for me. I had a nice low key dinner at my favorite restaurant, and drank my favorite wine. This is exactly what I wanted.  I wore my blue dress from H&M and tied my ribbon belt around it. I love this dress, and I hardly ever wear it.  I have so many new years resolutions. I want to eat healthier, exercise more, be more productive with my time, finish my portfolio, finish my graduate school program and have relaxing time for myself.  I agree, this will be a busy year, but it will also be so rewarding if I can do all these things I want to do. I am also so excited for 2011, because wide legs are coming into trend. Rachel Zoe has been wearing them for awhile with her Chanel jackets, but now is the time for the mainstream to start wearing the trend. Luckily I have had my seven for all mankind ginger jeans for two years now, all I need now is a to die for pair of wedges for spring.
